Quinine Dosage

The standard dosage of quinine for treating malaria is two capsules taken every eight hours for seven days. If you have kidney disease, you may need a lower dosage. You should start to feel better after a couple of days; however, do not stop taking the medication even though you feel better. This medication will not work unless it is taken as prescribed.

An Introduction to Your Dosage of Quinine

The dose of quinine sulfate (Qualaquin®) your healthcare provider recommends will depend on whether you have kidney disease. As is always the case, do not adjust your dosage unless your healthcare provider specifically tells you to do so.

In people with severe kidney disease, the standard dosage is a one-time dose of 648 mg (two capsules), then 324 mg (one capsule) every 12 hours for seven days.
