Malarone Drug Interactions

A number of medications, including indinavir and dapsone, can interfere with the malaria drug Malarone. When interactions occur, it may reduce the effectiveness of your medications and increase the risk of side effects. Therefore, it's important to tell your healthcare provider about all your current medications before starting treatment. This will help ensure your safety and reduce your risk of problems.

An Overview of Interactions With Malarone

Malarone® (atovaquone/proguanil) is a prescription medication licensed to prevent and to treat malaria infections. This medication may react with several other medications. Some of the drugs that can interact with Malarone include:
 
 
  • Rifamycin derivatives, such as:
     
    • Rifabutin (Mycobutin®)
    • Rifampin (Rifadin®)
    • Rifapentine (Priftin®)
