Coartem Medication Information

Coartem® (artemether/lumefantrine) is available only by prescription and is used to treat mild cases of malaria (uncomplicated malaria). This antimalarial drug is not appropriate for everyone; your healthcare provider needs up-to-date information on your medical history and what medications you are taking before prescribing Coartem.

Although many people do not have any problems while taking this product, Coartem can cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, and headaches. If negative reactions do occur, they tend to be minor and easily treated.

Coartem comes in the form of tablets and is taken twice daily for three days. Even if you begin to feel better after taking Coartem for a couple of days, it is important to continue taking this medicine for as long as your healthcare provider recommends.
