Although most people do not experience any problems with primaquine phosphate, several adverse effects can occur. Some of the most common side effects of this drug include:
  • Nausea and vomiting
  • Stomach upset
  • Diarrhea.
If side effects do occur, they are typically minor and easily treated. However, there are some potentially serious reactions that could occur, and these symptoms require medical attention. Contact your healthcare provider immediately if you experience problems such as:
  • Any vision problems
  • Depression or changes in mood or behavior
  • Signs of serious blood cell problems, such as:
    • Dark urine
    • Yellowing of the whites of the eyes or skin (jaundice)
    • High fever, chills, aches, and pains, which may be signs of an infection.
