Malaria Home > Coartem

Dosing Information

There is only one standard recommended dose of Coartem for malaria treatment in adults. The recommended dosage for children will depend on the child's weight.
As is always the case, do not adjust your dose unless your healthcare provider specifically tells you to do so.
(Click Coartem Dosage for more information.)

Side Effects of Coartem

Just like any medicine, Coartem can cause side effects. However, not everyone who takes the drug will experience problems. Most people tolerate it quite well.
Common side effects of Coartem include but are not limited to:
  • Vomiting (especially in children)
  • Headaches
  • Dizziness
  • Feeling weak
  • Feeling tired
  • Decreased appetite
  • Muscle and joint pain or stiffness
  • Chills
  • Fever.
If reactions do occur, in most cases, they are minor and either require no treatment or are treated easily by you or your healthcare provider. Serious side effects are less common.
(Click Coartem Side Effects to learn more, including potentially serious side effects that you should report immediately to your healthcare provider.)

Drug Interactions With Coartem

Coartem can potentially interact with several other medicines (see Coartem Drug Interactions).
