Available by prescription only, chloroquine phosphate (Aralen®) is a type of antimalarial drug. It is used to prevent or treat malaria, as well as treat amebiasis (another type of parasitic infection). To prevent malaria, chloroquine tablets must be taken before, during, and after travel to a malaria zone.
