Dosing Information

The dose of Lariam your healthcare provider recommends will vary depending on a number of factors, including:
  • Whether you are taking the medication to prevent or to treat malaria
  • Your age
  • Your weight (in children).
As is always the case, do not adjust your dose unless your healthcare provider specifically tells you to do so.
(Click Lariam Dosage for more information.)

Side Effects of Lariam

Just like any medicine, Lariam can cause side effects. However, not everyone who uses the drug will experience problems. Most people tolerate it quite well.
Common side effects of Lariam include but are not limited to:
  • Vomiting
  • Nausea
  • Diarrhea
  • Abdominal (stomach) pain
  • Dizziness, spinning sensation (vertigo), or loss of balance
  • Headaches
  • Problems sleeping, including strange dreams.
If reactions do occur, in most cases, they are minor and either require no treatment or are treated easily by you or your healthcare provider. Serious side effects are less common.
(Click Lariam Side Effects to learn more, including potentially serious side effects that you should report immediately to your healthcare provider.)

Drug Interactions

Lariam can potentially interact with several other medicines (see Lariam Drug Interactions).
