Lariam® (mefloquine hydrochloride) is a medication prescribed for the treatment or prevention of malaria. This antimalarial medication works by killing the parasite that causes the malaria blood infection. It comes in tablet form and is taken either as a one-time dose (to treat malaria) or on a weekly basis for several weeks (to prevent malaria). Although most people tolerate this medicine well, side effects are possible and may include vomiting, diarrhea, and dizziness.
