Drug Interactions With Hydroxychloroquine

Certain parasite medications and beta blockers may cause potentially negative drug interactions with hydroxychloroquine. Some interactions can increase your risk of developing side effects, while others can reduce the effectiveness of the medications. Some of the other medicines that may cause hydroxychloroquine interactions include cyclosporine, mefloquine, and digoxin.

An Overview of Hydroxychloroquine Drug Interactions

Hydroxychloroquine sulfate (Plaquenil®) can potentially interact with a few other medications. Some of these medicines that may lead to hydroxychloroquine drug interactions include:
 

 

 

  • Certain parasite medications, such as:

 

    • Albendazole (Albenza®)
    • Mebendazole (Vermox®)
    • Praziquantel (Biltricide®)
    • Thiabendazole (Mintezol®)

 

  • Cyclosporine (Gengraf®, Neoral®, Sandimmune®)
  • Digoxin (Digitek®, Lanoxin®)
  • Mefloquine (Lariam®)
  • Phenothiazine medications, including:
