Contraindications for Chloroquine

Before taking chloroquine phosphate (Aralen®), tell your healthcare provider if you have any of the following conditions:
 
  • Psoriasis
  • Kidney disease
  • G6PD (glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase) deficiency
  • Hearing problems.
     
Chloroquine is not suitable for everyone. While some people simply require closer monitoring during treatment, other people will need to avoid this drug altogether. Contraindications for chloroquine include:
 
  • Being allergic to any of the ingredients in the drug
  • Having had any eye problems from chloroquine or similar antimalarial medications.
