Most people are able to take the
malaria drug
chloroquine phosphate (
Aralen®) without any problems. However, as with any medication, adverse reactions are possible. For example, chloroquine has been known to cause side effects such as:
If side effects do occur, they tend to be mild and easy to treat. However, some of chloroquine's side effects are potentially dangerous and should be reported to your healthcare provider right away. These include:
- Skin reactions, such as a rash
- Hearing loss
- Hallucinations
- Signs of an allergic reaction, such as hives, swelling, or difficulty breathing.
