Welcome to the Malaria Channel

Malaria is a potentially fatal condition caused by an infection with a parasite called Plasmodium. It is usually transmitted through the bite of an infected female Anopheles mosquito. It can also be spread through contact with infected blood, but this is rare. Malaria is not transmitted from person to person, like the common cold or the flu. Common symptoms include fever, chills, diarrhea, and sweating. Treatment will depend on the severity of the disease and the type of parasite responsible for infection, among other things.

Welcome to the Malaria Health Channel by eMedTV. This segment of the eMedTV Web site contains dozens of articles on malaria, from a history of the disease to the incubation period to additional symptoms to the treatment options available. This channel also contains articles on the efforts to develop a malaria vaccine and on the Anopheles mosquito, which is the most common transmission method.
